Westview Choir at the Grotto
|
To all of you waiting for the Grotto photographs, Ill need another day or two. My home computer died and took all my data with it. I have backups of all my important stuff, but its just a pain getting everything loaded again, its taken me a day just to reinstall half of my programs.
The Grotto music was ruined by a crying baby. I put my microphones where they can pick up the accoustics of the church, but that means crying kids, people talking, etc. all become part of the recording. Hey, its a free country and all, but there are just some places crying kids do not belong.
BUT, the Grotto makes a tape recording of each performance, and Marci Taylor has loaned this to me. It sounds like a tape recording, lots of hiss, but I can clean some of it up with my software, and the locations of the microphones the Grotto uses are not as subject to background noise.
So we have not decided if I should make recordings of the Grotto performance, if I do they should be for sale at the Christmas, oops, sorry, HOLIDAY concert on 12/19/2007.
See you then...

The good news?
I have uploaded the file.

For now, happy listening!

McKENZIE CLASSIC 10/28/2007
|
200 new pictures.
1.2 Gigabytes of data.
These have got to be a pain to browse, maybe I need a different web site, one that lets you see multiple thumbnails at once.
Maybe I could start copying these to DVD and let people make copies?

New camera, new pictures!
|
I was unhappy with the quality of a lot of the pictures from last couple of weeks, to much digital noise and too much time in photoshop cleaning it up.
It gave me the excuse to get a new Olympus E-510. Its a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) with a motion stabilized 10 megapixel image sensor. Tonight was the first test, I shot these in RAW mode and converted them to .JPG. I did not do any noise reduction on these pictures.
With luck, the rain will stay away during Westview's performance tomorrow at Hillsboro stadium. If so, Ill be taking lots of pictures and uploading them. I'll probably shoot these in JPG instead of RAW so I have enough room on my memory card.
I never thought a 4 gigabyte compact flash would seem small!

Westview Homecoming - some notes about the pictures.
|
If you want to know how to download full resolution copies of any of my photographs, please read the prior message, it has downloading instructions.
And now, a couple notes about the homecoming pictures.
I found a "hack" to double the light sensitivity of my camera image sensor chip from 1600 ISO to 3200 ISO . This makes it much easier to take telephoto pictures at night, but at the cost of chromatic noise (color splotching) in the pictures.
I started Photoshop Elements 5 to clean up the pictures, but Elements will not allow me to do "batch" noise reduction; I had to clean one picture at a time. After a few hours I gave up and started uploading.
I hope you enjoy them!

How to find the pictures you want
|
To the left of this blog you will see a tab that says "More Content." Under that is a button that says the number of photographs I have uploaded. Click on that.
Now a photograph should appear from the most recent album. If you move your mouse over the photo it will give you options to start a slide show.
By selecting "Album" on the left, you can select a different event to view.
If you left click on any picture, it will open in a new web page. You can download this low resolution copy by right clicking on it. For a high resolution copy, left click on the photo again and it will open up full size in another window; now right click to download.
Play around and have fun!

Choir, band and colorguard awards photographs
|
Wow, another year gone by!
Right now I am uploading the photographs I took at the Westview 2007 Band and Colorguard awards night on Tuesday, 5/29/2007 and the Choir concert, awards night and "A Little Night Music" on 5/30/2007.
The pictures have not been retouched in any way, save for reducing their size to make for more manageable file sizes. You can use these photographs for non-commercial purposes that are "kind" in nature to the individuals photographed.
Enjoy the photographs, the Choir and Night Music CD's will be available in a couple days.

What is this?
|
|
Its a location where I will be putting (sooner or later) all my photographs of various WHS activities going back to 1999 or so. -Marching Band, symphonic, freshman, drumline, etc. -Choir performances, competitions and shows from the Grotto Festival of Lights. I am in the middle of a HUGE upgrade to my computer and so have not been able to upload as of late, but look for lots more pictures soon. -David
